Goodbye Dr. Smirnova 😢

I have made it to my LAST METHODS COURSE EVER . I have a bittersweet feeling about this. I have come so far since my first methods course. I have never been pushed the way these courses have pushed me. I can't believe today was my last day of Science Methods. I am so thankful for the education Dr.Smirnova has provided me with. I have learned so much in this course. I have learned to work in a group and learned to work collaboratively. I have learned to explore many different amazing websites such as  padlet.com ,  googledocs.com ,  Kahoot.com ,  Powtoon.com ,  ThingLink.com ,  Bubbl.us.com ,  voicethread.com , just to name some. Dr. Smirnova has prepared me for my future in enormous ways. Not only has she taught me to push myself to the limits, she taught me to become a leader.  Teaching Science has given me the opportunity to allow students to engage and explore through the process of inquiry. Inquiry allows science to come to...

Rain Fills My Garden🌷

Rain Fills My Garden My favorite project I completed this semester was my ThingLink project! Dr. Smirnova introduced us to ThingLink and I am so happy she did! This project was inquiry based following the 5E's. Our task was to create a ThingLink based on the Sensory garden and the content taught in fieldwork. After watching videos on how to create a ThingLink and learning through trial and error, I created my own! My ThingLink was geared towards the fourth grade. This project was filled with engaging articles, and videos about water, weather, and how climate effects gardening.  The 5E inquiry model consist of Engage Explore Explain  Elaborate Evaluate Each section in my ThingLink were different. The Engage section had students begin by watching a video: Crash Course: Where Does Water Come From? After the video was watched the students had to fill out what they learned on their  KWHL chart . This chart allows students to reflect on what they know...

Exploring Classmates Earth Science Projects

Space Kelly & James -Kelly  and James had the task to create a planet and convince other people to come to their planet. -They engaged by exploring location of planets, explain, apply, reflect, and elaborate.  -They were able to explore the whole solar system from inside the classroom.  -They were able to utilize videos and technology to learn more about space. -I enjoyed learning about space from Kelly and James. View their project using this link . Weathering & Erosion Amanda & Ganny -Self learning experience through research without teachers.  -Were able to explore through a KWL chart. K- What you know W- What you want to know L- What you learned -There were similarities and differences of weathering and erosion. -They filed out graphic organizers. -This was filled with note taking and what they learned. -Sort of like a web quest using google docs. -Weathering & Erosion lab...hands on lab ...

Learning Adventure for Students

Activities based on 5E's Engage Explore & Report somewhere (using a form or link) Explain Elaborate Evaluate Time to explore for the last lesson on the sensory garden: Weather & Water. Click from UP design under ThingLink Challenge to explore and engage with ThingLink. In ThingLink you can create pages to each of our classmates lessons. *Using iPad can select using 3D images* Brainstorm ideas on what my lesson will be... *create script on google docs what I will do, how will I engage students in inquiry learning -send to explore, explain elaborate ( create a movie, poster) *could use Amanda's template for my lesson

Help! The Avalanche is upon us!

Help! The Avalanche is upon us! Snow falls as I'm sledding down the mountain. I pause to take a peek behind me and I froze In that moment, I thought my life was over. The snow sweeps over my head at full force. I thought I was going to die. The Avalanche was coming. But I survived. By: Michaela Otranto

Learning about Violent Weather Project

Weather is the condition of the air, or atmosphere, on our planet.  Severe Weather is any dangerous act of nature fueled by changes in the atmosphere, that puts people, animals, or buildings at risk. Hurricanes are storms with high winds and heavy rain that start tropical storms that form over warm ocean waters .  A flood is an act of nature that occurs when too much rain forces streams, rivers, and lakes to overflow.  A drought is an act of nature that occurs when an area doesn't receive enough rainfall, drying up rivers and lakes, killing trees, and ruining crops. 3 things I learned from the video   1.  A tornado is a fast- spinning column of air that stretches all the way from a thunderstorm cloud in the sky down to the Earth's surface.  2. Blizzard are storms with blowing or falling snow, high winds, and cold temperatures. 3.   A flood is an act of nature that occurs when too much rain forces streams, rive...

Common Misconceptions

Group 2,3, & 4 Misconceptions & Objectives Pluses & Wishes Group 2 Kelly, Bailey, and Megan 3 Pluses 1. I like how you took advice from the class & Dr. Smirnova when editing your objectives. 2. Your objectives were filled with fun, creative, interactive experiences for students.  3. You all used eye contact when presenting.  1 Wish I wish you were more enthusiastic when presenting.  Group 3 Cassandra, Ganny, and Cierra 3 Pluses 1. Your first two objectives were very concrete and strong; to the point.  2. I like how you took Dr. Smirnova's feedback and used it to better your objectives in a positive way. 3. Your misconceptions were relatable to my experience as a child. I enjoyed them. 1 Wish  I wish you explained more about what your lesson would consist of.  Group 4 James and Tara 3 Pluses 1. I like how you were so open to changing your objectives based on Dr. Smirnova's feedb...
