Introducing ME!

Have you ever used WordArt or created a Word Cloud? I chose to use WordArt to introduce myself to the Science Methods course because I have never really used the program. While creating my own WordArt to introduce myself I began to brainstorm all the different ways I could use WordArt/ Word Cloud in the classroom. WordArt is a great attention grabber, great closer to a lesson, and something the kids could create to show their understanding.A teacher could use Word Art for almost everything. Creating my own digital me allowed me to reflect on myself and think about what I wanted to share with the class. To introduce ourselves the class created a google slideshow. On the slides, you can find each one of my colleagues and see what their digital me's have to offer. Click here to view the presentation.

Seen above is my WordArt that I shared with the class. The words inside tell all about me!

Throughout the week I learned about my peers through digital me projects. Each peer had a different technology to work with and shared information about themselves using that technology program. I think that everyone's digital me projects were awesome! I learned so much about everyone. It was really interesting to see the different programs used and how my peers used them to share about themselves. I realized that I could use each piece of technology used in the classroom. Each piece of technology was unique. Dr Smirnova said "In order to teach well and be confident you have to know your content." That really spoke to me.

Throughout the digital me projects I learned so many new different technologies I could use in my future classroom. Examples: KahootVokiThinglinkPreziVoicethread,Google Slides,Present Me. All of these technologies are wonderful! There are many ways you could use these programs to use in the classroom as an educator.

Help! The Avalanche is upon us!

Help! The Avalanche is upon us! Snow falls as I'm sledding down the mountain. I pause to take a peek behind me and I froze In that moment, I thought my life was over. The snow sweeps over my head at full force. I thought I was going to die. The Avalanche was coming. But I survived. By: Michaela Otranto

Group 2 Takes on Direct Instruction!

This past week group 2 took on direct instruction and inquiry! I was so excited to see what they had planned for the fourth grade! The teachers of group 2 were Megan, Kelly, and Bailey. All three of them did a wonderful job. They taught about light energy.   They began their lesson by asking the students what they thought their lesson was going to be about. The slide predicted energy. The students shared their thoughts. Most students predictions were correct! After the students knew what they were going to be learning about the teachers began their lesson.  They began by showing the students a word cloud. The word cloud was wonderful! It included key words they would be hearing throughout the lesson. The teachers   handed out a vocabulary sheet for the students to fill in during the lesson. From my perspective, the vocabulary sheet should have been handled differently. It was very long and the students didn't understand how to write their own definitions rather tha...

Back to Learning

Today was the first day of Science and Technology Methods! I am so incredibly excited to begin learning about teaching Science through technology. In the beginning of class today we watched this video(shown on the side of the blog). This video was a great introduction to the course. With being a teacher candidate I think it is important to be knowledgeable about technology. Technology is the key to being a successful teacher. The students of today are so obsessed  with technology. They spend most of their time on the computer, playing video games, and so on. When technology is brought into the classrooms, it opens the doors for engagement. Having your students engaged is super important. As a child, I loved school. Although I loved school, I do not remember much technology involvement. There were very limited resources when it came to technology. I attended computer class once a week, and sometimes if we were participating in a web quest, there would be c...
